Cuando se publicaron los grandes clásicos del rock progresivo, en los años 1970, apenas se hacían ilustraciones y había pocos medios en la mayoría de bandas para poder acompañar sus trabajos de ilustraciones y por supuesto, de videoclips.
Si bien Pink Floyd disfrutó de grandes animaciones visuales para sus canciones de mediados y finales de esa década, otros como Genesis, King Crimson o YES nunca tuvieron esa suerte.
Vamos ahora a poner imagen a esas grandes letras que se compusieron para las geniales piezas que siguen siendo canciones inmortales de rock progresivo.
'The Court of the Crimson King'
Muchos soñaron con esa magnífica letra de Pete Sinfield para el clásico 'The Court of the Crimson King, cierre del disco de debut de King Crimson en 1969.
En ella se dice:
"The keeper of the city keys
Put shutters on the dreams
I wait outside the pilgrim's door
With insufficient schemes
The black queen chants
The funeral march
The cracked brass bells will ring
To summon back the fire witch
To the court of the crimson king"
Así sería su imaginería:
En cambio, así imaginamos a ese hombre esquizofrénico del siglo XXI ('21st Century Schizoid Man') cuando Sinfield compuso las letras:
"Blood rack, barbed wire
Politicians' funeral pyre
Innocents raped with napalm fire
Twenty first century schizoid man"
Y si pasamos a Genesis, cómo olvidar esa parte final de la genial 'Supper's Ready':
"There's an angel standing in the sun

To take them to the new Jerusalem"
Tampoco dejemos de lado la genial y fantasiosa 'The Return of the Giant Hogweed' ("el regreso del perejil gigante"):
Y qué comentar de la legendaria 'Close to the Edge' de YES:
Nadie puede olvidar tampoco la magia en torno a 'Soon', esa pequeña pieza que formaba parte de 'The Gates of Delirium':
"Soon oh soon the light
Ours to shape for all time, ours the right
The sun will lead us
Our reason to be here
The sun will lead us

¿Y qué nos decís de la genial 'Starship Trooper' de la misma banda?
"Starship trooper, go sailing on by
Catch my soul, catch the very light
Hide the moment from my eager eye
Though you've seen them, please don't tell a soul
What you can't see, can't be very whole"
Volviendo a King Crimson, es complicado captar esa infinita oscuridad que se transmitía en 'Starless':
"Sundown dazzling day
Gold through my eyes
But my eyes turned within
Only see
Starless and bible black
Old friend charity
Cruel twisted smile
And the smile signals emptiness
For me
Starless and bible black"
Casi lo mismo puede ocurrir con la tristeza y melancolía en la mágica 'Epitaph':
"When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams
Confusion will be my epitaph
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it, we can all sit back and laugh
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying"
Tenemos especial predilección por la triste 'Tears' de Rush:
"What would touch me deeper?
